Here’s my post / first review of Mobilink Infinity , A new WiMax service by Mobilink GSM in Pakistan.

I just subscribed to Mobilink Infinity for 1Mbps connection. The installers came over and installed it , the over all installation experience was okay , apart from the fact that they don’t provide you the CPE password , so you cannot do any port mapping / port forwarding, so had to fight with them to get the access. The
installers told me that its a 256K connection which will be shifted to 1mbps profile by tomorrow , which on repeated requests today was shifted to 1mbps.

The service in general is pathetic , i dont know if its just me or the overall user experience , but I get wayy high ping times ( 818ms to google ) and around 14 – 20 % packet loss all the time , My 1mbps wi-max gives me around 10 – 14k ( http://tinyurl.com/5jo2ez ) where my 512kb PTCL dsl downloads fine from the same machine.

Oh while I am at it , the VoIP service they provide with the Wimax is pathetic as well , it gets disconnected again and again, the voip quality sucks and incoming calls rarely work , people tell me they get number un-reachable even when calling from Mobilink.

By the way , I am a Wateen Wi-max , Worldcall , PTCL DSL & Link.NET DSL customer and comparing Mobilink’s Wimax service with them.

Here are my scores

Installation : 7/10
Service : 0/10  ( it doesn’t work! )
Voip : 4/10
Customer Support : 8/10

I hope someone from Mobilink can help me out.

Why are you spreading FUD against Mobilink?

I am sorry, but you can call it whatever you like. FUD is just that, FUD. If you have what you call considerable proof to support the otherwise FUD you are spreading, put it up. Also, Freedom of Speech does not entail shouting fire in a crowded theatre when there is no fire at all. Look on wikipedia if you don’t get it.

    Dear taichiman,

You are probably aware that this is a soft launch, and new system always have few bugs which we at Mobilink are striving to figure out.

No hard feelings, you may have some bad experience but I would encourage you to give your feedback to our helpline (partially up but it do works now) as well so that it could be figure out.

Your feedback is very important, specially in this initial stages.

Be assured these bugs will be fixed before our commercial launch.

    Hope you understand.

Looking forward for a long term relationship with you.

Actually I expect to get what I pay for as well but that is turning out to be a difficult proposition living in Pakistan.

    Dear All

I resently got the mobilink infinity deplyed in my premisis the overall deployment experience was nice and its faster than the LAN cable network, i checked from http://www.speedtest.net and got a ful 1MB downloading speed , the voip quality is crystal clear at my home and i have only experienced 1 drop call , The main issue that i observe is if i logon from two wireless systems at the time the speed is greatly affected , where as if i keep two conections i.e(1 wireless and other wired ) the speed is not affected that much, The wireless strenth of the router is weak it fades quickly,
I have has good experience whiile browsing and downloading , but have had a terible experience with video streaming with this service ( only mini videos of youtube and metacafe run fine except all video streaming sites are giving me a hard time , ) even the streaming live tv is not working as it whould with a 1mb connection.

I would like mobilink to takemy feedback from this site and do something about this issue.

Mobilink is doing the same thing to its Wi Max services, which is Multi Vendor solutions, they are much worse than wateen considering that they have been at it since this Jan and so far they have a uptime of 60%, Once they start getting in users that is the time the fun will begin. The have Multiple issues which will only multiply once they start getting in users, the same way wateen did to me Wateen was much better because at least they didnt lie,Infinity People have being lying from day 1 (The day they come to setup you connection) everyone thing its 1mbps, this 1 mbps is shared between 4 users its a shared connection th packages they are offering have a 15 GB 1 Mbps, it is only good for people who either have a base station between 1-2 Km only then they will have a stable connection otherwise their CPE Indoor or Outdoor will Keep on ‘Camping and decamping’ please remember they have not yet launched the service reason being they can’t solve the problems which they are facing in the soft launch, When you ask them about the 1Mbps connection they will say it is contention based but to check for yourself goto any speed test site and see the upload divide that by the connection speed lets say if you have a 1 Mbps package the upload will not be more than 200 Kbps if its less than that then it mean its 1/5 sharing maybe even more like world call which has 1/8 but they are smart people with good equipment and have taken care of it by caching or bursting the connection when you are at a speed test website.I would still rate Wateen higher than Mobilinkinfinity because they has about 15000-20000 users and still managed to send someone over to ‘fix’ the problem. It would be very interesting when mobilinkinfinity gets 15000-20000 users, most of us have hear the call center ‘dialouges’ between Mobilink cell phone customers it was posted on youtube but mobilink begged them to take if off saying it’s abusive language. The best medium is DSL if you live close to the exchange you get less downtime and consistent speed they only block voice ports which is fine for now.Buraq is also coming up with Wi Max lets see how they go about it.
    MobilinkInfinity:
Installation; 9/10 (Coz that’s when you pay them)
    Service: 3/10
SIP/Voip: 2/10 (Because you can only call mobilink numbers and no one knows how it will work when you start calling other networks, cities, countries…etc
Customer Support: 3.5 / 10 (All fresh Grads from SSIUT) with no experience and bout 25% of them from Wateen.
    God Help us.!
